Royal Sovereign International, Inc., a manufacturer and worldwide distributor of consumer appliances, office products, and graphics equipment, is pleased to announce its industrial design contest for a line of portable room air conditioners. Contest begins February 26, 2010 and ends May 28, 2010. We must receive your entry by 11:59 PM EST (Eastern Standard Time) on May 28, 2010.

For your entry to qualify for consideration, you must meet the following requirements:

1.      Complete the Official Contest Entry Form and email to idc@royalsovereign.com.

2.      Provide a complete description of your entry (up to 500 words), in the form of a technical abstract, which should include a description of features. Description must be emailed to idc@royalsovereign.com.

3.      Submit at least one visual illustration in PDF file format. You may submit scanned sketches, charts, 2D CAD drawing images, 3D CAD images including 3D PDF, or eDrawings files – as long as they are in PDF format. Minimum size is 1280 pixels by 1280 pixels. Minimum resolution is 300 DPI. Maximum file size is 5 MB. This file must be emailed to idc@royalsovereign.com.

Design requirements & recommendations:

1.      Designs should be based on a 14,000BTU capacity, dual hose portable air conditioner.

2.      All designs must incorporate a dual hose exhaust system, control panel, remote control, and a solution for frequent movement by a consumer.

3.      Product dimensions should not be larger than 34” Height x 20” Width (left to right) x 17” Depth (front to back).

4.      Special consideration will be given to designs that address overall efficiency of air flow and air cooling cycle, or alleviate the exertion and stresses on the internal system (includes a compressor, condensor, evaporator, capillary tube, refrigerant, and fans that draw in and expel air).

5.      Designs should be technically feasible and able to be industrially manufactured.

Designs will be judged on these criteria:

·         Innovation of Design (30%)
·         Manufacturability (30%)
·         Marketability (15%)
·         Cost-effectiveness (15%)
·         Communication of Design (visuals and text explanation, 10%)

Contest Rules [Download]

1.       NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN.  VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.

2.       Open only to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 18 years of age or older at time of entry.

3.       Participation in the Contest constitutes an agreement by each entrant to be bound by these Official Contest Rules. Entrants automatically acknowledge all US laws that may apply. Failure to adhere to these terms and conditions nullifies contestant privileges to further participate in the contest as Royal Sovereign sees fit to determine.

4.       Employees of Royal Sovereign International, Inc. and its respective parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, and their immediate families (spouse, parents, children and siblings and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) and individuals living in the same households of such employees, whether or not related, are ineligible to enter or win.  Subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.

5.       This contest starts at 12:00 AM Eastern Time (“ET”) on February 26, 2010 and ends at 11:59 PM ET on May 28, 2010.

6.       Entrants must complete all required fields on the Official Contest Entry Form available at http://www.royalsovereign.com/contests, and submit a completed form by email to idc@royalsovereign.com. Multiple submissions will be accepted, but only one prize per contestant can be awarded. Each entry must be made under a single individual's name. Each design submitted must be uniquely yours, or you must have proof of permission from the author to distribute the content. Incomplete forms will not be eligible for contest registration. Submission of incomplete or erroneous information will void your submission.

7.       Entrants must send their submissions in PDF format. Minimum size is 1280 pixels by 1280 pixels. Minimum resolution is 300 DPI. Maximum file size is 5 MB. The file must be emailed to idc@royalsovereign.com.

8.       By entering, entrants warrant that their entry is an original idea that has not previously won awards or prizes of monetary value in another contest prior to entering the Royal Sovereign Portable Air Conditioner Industrial Design Contest, that they are authorized by the owner of the design to enter the design in the contest, that the design does not pertain to a product that is or has already been in commercial production, and that the design does not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party.

9.       Potential winner may be required, in the sole discretion of the judges, to execute and return an affidavit of eligibility, assignment of design, liability release and, where legal, a publicity release within fourteen (14) days of date of issuance of those documents or prize may be forfeited and, at Royal Sovereign’s discretion, awarded to an alternate winner.  Prize is not transferable, redeemable for cash, or substitutable except Sponsor retains the right at its discretion to substitute the prize or portion of prize with something of comparable or greater value.  Potential winner will be notified by e-mail.  In the event that any e-mail to potential winner is returned as undeliverable or a response to a given e-mail is not received within three (3) days of its issuance or potential winner is not in compliance with these rules, the prize may be forfeited and, at Sponsor’s discretion, an alternate winner may be selected.

10.    Royal Sovereign is not responsible for any expenses incurred by entrants in connection with participation in the contest.

11.    Entrants represent and warrant that the materials are owned by them or their company free and clear of any liens or claims of any third-party, that they have a legal right to grant the permission herein given on behalf of themselves, their company, or a third party, if appropriate. Furthermore, the entrant agrees that he/she, or if the design is owned by his/her company, that his/her company will indemnify and hold harmless Royal Sovereign, Royal Sovereign’s affiliates, assigns, agents, and employees, against liability should any third-party claim that the use of the materials by Royal Sovereign, Royal Sovereign’s affiliates, assigns, agents, and employees, violates any right of such third party to the materials.

12.    Entry designs that comply with the Official Rules will be judged by Royal Sovereign staff members. All submissions will be judged with the following criteria: Innovation of design (30%), Manufacturability (30%), Marketability (15%), Cost-effectiveness (15%), and Design communication (visuals and text explanation, 10%).  Selection of a contest winner will be made at the sole discretion of Royal Sovereign.

13.    One (1) winner will be selected to win $1000. The cash prize will be awarded via US Check. All federal, state, local, municipal, income, and other taxes (if any) are the sole responsibility of the winner. The winner will be notified by phone, email, and/or direct mail, as listed as part of the entry process.

14.    Entrants agree to abide by the terms of these Official Rules and by the decisions of Royal Sovereign, which are final and binding on all matters pertaining to this Contest. By entering, they agree to waive any right to claim ambiguity or error in these Official Rules.

15.    Sovereign reserves the right to modify, suspend, or terminate the contest, submissions, and/or these terms and conditions at its sole discretion.

16.    NATURE OF RELATIONSHIP/WAIVER OF EQUITABLE RELIEF:   Each Entrant hereby acknowledges and agrees that the relationship between the Entrant and Royal Sovereign is not a confidential, fiduciary, or other special relationship.  Each Entrant understands and acknowledges that has wide access to ideas, stories, designs, and other literary materials, and that new ideas are constantly being submitted to it or being developed by its own employees.  Each Entrant also acknowledges that many designs, ideas, or stories may be competitive with, similar or identical to the Entry Design.  Each Entrant acknowledges and agrees that such Entrant will not be entitled to any compensation as a result of Royal Sovereign’s use of any such similar or identical material that has or may come to Royal Sovereign from other sources.  Finally, each Entrant acknowledges that, with respect to any claim by Entrant relating to or arising out of Royal Sovereign’s actual or alleged use of any Entry Design or other material submitted in connection with the Contest, the damage, if any, thereby caused to the applicable Entrant will not be irreparable or otherwise sufficient to entitle such Entrant to seek injunctive or other equitable relief or in any way enjoin the production, distribution, exhibition or other exploitation of any Entry Design and Entrant’s rights and remedies in any such event shall be strictly limited to the right to recover damages, if any, in an action at law.

17.    AS A CONDITION OF PARTICIPATING, ENTRANT AGREES THAT A) UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL ENTRANT BE PERMITTED TO OBTAIN AWARDS FOR, AND ENTRANT HEREBY WAIVES ALL RIGHTS TO CLAIM PUNITIVE, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR ANY OTHER DAMAGES, OTHER THAN FOR ACTUAL OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES, IF ANY, AND B) ALL CAUSES OF ACTION ARISING OUT OF OR CONNECTED WITH THIS CONTEST, OR ANY COMPENSATION OR CREDIT TO BE PROVIDED, SHALL BE RESOLVED INDIVIDUALLY, WITHOUT RESORT TO ANY FORM OF CLASS ACTION; AND C) ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, JUDGMENTS, AND AWARD SHALL BE LIMITED TO ACTUAL OUT OF POCKET COSTS INCURRED, if any, AND in no event SHALL ENTRANT BE ENTITLED TO RECEIVE attorneys’ fees OR OTHER LEGAL COSTS OR EXPENSES.

18.    Contest is governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey without regard to its conflict of laws principles, with venue in Bergen County, New Jersey and all claims must be resolved exclusively in the courts of Bergen County, New Jersey.  By participating, entrant agrees as follows:  a) to abide by these Official Rules, and to the decisions of Royal Sovereign, which shall be final and binding in all respects; b) to the use of his/her name and/or likeness and/or biographical data by Royal Sovereign and its designees if selected as a winner for advertising, promotional and other purposes in any or all media now or hereafter known throughout the world in perpetuity without compensation, permission or notification (except where prohibited by law); and c) THAT ROYAL SOVEREIGN AND ITS PARENTS, AFFILIATES, SUBSIDIARIES, ADVERTISING AND PROMOTION AGENCIES, PRIZE SUPPLIERS, RETAILERS, DISTRIBUTORS AND SUPPLIERS, AND EACH OF ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, SHAREHOLDERS, AGENTS, AND EMPLOYEES (COLLECTIVELY, THE “RELEASED PARTIES”) SHALL HAVE NO LIABILITY AND SHALL BE HELD HARMLESS FOR ANY DAMAGE, LOSS OR INJURY TO AN ENTRANT OR ANY THIRD PARTY RESULTING FROM PARTICIPATION IN THIS CONTEST.  Released Parties are not responsible for lost, delayed, interrupted or unavailable network, server or other connections, miscommunications, failed phone, computer or telephone transmissions or technical failure, jumbled, scrambled or misdirected transmissions, or other errors or malfunctions of any kind whether computer, network, human, mechanical, electronic, printing, typographical or otherwise relating to or in connection with this Contest, including, without limitation, errors or problems which may occur in connection with the administration of the Contest, the processing of entries, the announcement of the prize or in any Contest-related materials or for any damage to entrant’s or other person’s hardware or software as a result of participation.  Released Parties are not responsible for entries that are lost, late, stolen, inaccurate, incomplete, delayed, misdirected, undelivered, garbled or delayed by computer transmissions.  Persons found tampering with or abusing any aspect of this Contest as solely deter­mined by the judges will be disqualified.  Every submission must be manually keystroked and manually entered by the individual participant and repetitive automated electronic submission of entries is specifically disallowed.  Use of automated entry software or programs is prohibited and all such entries will be void.  In the event the Contest is compromised by virus, bugs, non-authorized human intervention or other causes beyond the control of Sponsor which corrupts or impairs the administration, security, fairness or proper play of the Contest, Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to modify, suspend or terminate the Contest or any portion thereof and/or terminate the participation of any participant (and void his/her entry) whose conduct potentially compromises the Contest and at its sole discretion to award the prize from among all eligible non-suspect entries received prior to the act requiring such suspension or termination. The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these Official Rules shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. In the event that any provision is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable or illegal, these Official Rules shall otherwise remain in effect and shall be construed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or illegal provision were not contained herein.
